At Short Pump Animal Hospital in Glen Allen, VA, we offer surgical services to help pets live healthier lives, and our compassionate care, both during and after surgery, is a hallmark of our practice. We perform routine spays and neuters as well as extensive soft tissue and many orthopedic procedures.

During an office visit our veterinarians will examine all your pet’s body systems (a full “nose-to-toes” approach) and will ask you questions about your pet’s behavior, appetite, exercise habits and regular activity.

We minimize wait times to the best of our ability. If there is a short wait, our facility is home to a comfortable waiting area.

The front office team at Short Pump Animal Hospital keeps our hospital team organized and ready for daily appointments.

We have spacious exam rooms where we conduct nose-to-toes exams and will ask you questions about your pet’s behavior, appetite, exercise habits, and regular activity.

When a dental cleaning procedure is performed at Short Pump Animal Hospital, a trained Licensed Veterinary Technician performs full-mouth radiographs, scaling, probing, and charting any abnormalities.

In our small animal routine radiographic suite, images of bone and soft tissue are now taken using digital sensors as opposed to the traditional photographic method. The advantages of the digital format include the ability to manipulate the images on a computer, magnify lesions and enhance certain areas in order to better visualize the problem.

Our dog kennels are clean, spacious, and safe - giving our clients peace of mind when they leave their precious pups in our care!

We have clean and spacious kennels for our cats and small animal patients to recover in after procedures or if they are staying for hospital treatment.

Getting the right diagnosis means faster treatment for your pet so he or she will be feeling better as soon as possible. Fortunately, we have access to several of these tools at our hospital to help diagnose your pet in a timely manner. Our in-house laboratory allows us to perform most necessary bloodwork in the hospital, resulting in quick results and appropriate treatment for your pet.

We also offer ultrasonography (often referred to as a sonogram), a noninvasive technology which is used to obtain a more complete view of internal organs.

We offer the BAER hearing test at Short Pump Animal Hospital. BAER is currently being used to eliminate or reduce the incidence of genetic expression of deafness from several breeds of dogs. Since deafness is a genetic defect, and since it appears essentially at 2-3 weeks of age, testing the pup anytime after five weeks of age has become an excellent way to identify the auditory status of individual dogs.
